Republican
presidential front-runner Donald Trump early Tuesday fired his latest
salvo in his attack against GOP rival Jeb Bush, criticizing the former
Florida governor
for saying his use of the term "anchor babies" applied more to Asians
than Hispanics.
Trump sent a pair of tweets blasting Bush early Tuesday:
Bush,
whose wife is from Mexico, vigorously defended his use of the term
"anchor babies" on Monday during a trip to the U.S.-Mexico border after
being criticized last
week for using the term viewed by some as derogatory.
The
former Florida governor, who has polled second in the GOP field behind
Trump, said his use of the term describes those immigrants who are
fraudulently taking advantage
of birthright citizenship.
“What
I’m talking about is the specific case of fraud being committed where
there’s organized efforts — frankly it’s more related to Asian people —
coming into our country,
having children in that organized effort, taking advantage of that
noble concept, which is birthright citizenship," Bush said.
A campaign spokesperson later clarified Bush was referring to widely reported federal probes into "birth tourism."
Bush
and Trump have traded barbs for the past week, with Trump knocking Bush
on a several issues including his last name and Bush hitting the real
estate tycoon as not
being conservative.
