Democratic
presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is intensifying his outreach to
minority voters in an effort to expand his coalition.
The
Vermont senator spoke Monday in Kansas City at a conference of the
National Council of La Raza, a Latino advocacy group. His Democratic
competitors, Martin O'Malley
and Hillary Rodham Clinton, were set to speak later in the day.
Sanders
says President Barack Obama's executive order deferring deportation for
some people should be expanded to include parents of those who have
been living in the
country illegally since childhood. He said there should be "a path to
citizenship, so people can come out of the shadows."
Clinton
also has said an immigration overhaul must include a path to "full and
equal citizenship" for people living in the U.S. illegally.
