Kevin McAleenan officially became permanent head of Customs and Border Protection today after waiting nearly a year to be confirmed.
The Senate voted 77-19 today to confirm McAleenan’s nomination for CBP commissioner, after clearing a separate procedural vote last week.
President Donald Trump first nominated McAleenan for the position last year. McAleenan has been acting commissioner for CBP since last January. He served as the agency’s deputy commissioner prior to that.
