Speaker
John A. Boehner created a special working group Tuesday to coordinate
the House GOP’s response to the children surging across the U.S. border,
and named Rep. Kay
Granger to lead the effort.
Ms.
Granger, a Texas Republican, heads a group of seven lawmakers including
the chairmen of both the Judiciary and Homeland Security committees.
“The
president has allowed a national security and humanitarian crisis to
develop on the U.S. southern border. There are two imperatives here:
protect those children and
secure our border,” Mr. Boehner said in announcing the working group,
which he said will be charged with making sure House Republicans are on
top of the situation.
Mr.
Boehner and several other top-level Republicans have called for the
president to deploy the National Guard to help secure the border.
