National Archives Opens New Exhibit Featuring Photos, Documents Telling History of Immigration

Associated Press (Washington, DC):  Documents and photographs attached to U.S. immigration forms have been culled from the National Archives for a new exhibit about immigrants who came to this country.

The exhibit, "Attachments: Faces and Stories from America's Gates," recently opened free of charge. It looks at immigration between 1880 and the end of World War II.

Curators pulled together documents showing how people entered the country and about those who left willingly or unwillingly. It also looks at immigrants who stayed to make a new life.

There's a story of a Michigan woman who married a Chinese man but she lost her U.S. citizenship and was considered Chinese. And there's the story of a Holocaust survivor who came to the U.S. after his parents were murdered.

The exhibit is on view until September.
