Associated Press (New Hampshire): The New Hampshire Senate has passed a resolution in support of the tough Arizona law that requires police to check the immigration status of people they want to stop for any reason.
The Senate rejected an effort to kill the resolution on a 15-9 vote Wednesday and then passed it without debate. The sponsor of the House-passed resolution did not show up at the hearing and all the witnesses testified against it. Opponents said it would encourage racial profiling.
The resolution says illegal immigration is costing the country billions of dollars in welfare, health care, education and prison costs. It says New Hampshire supports Arizona's right to protect its borders and citizens.
The U.S. Supreme Court recently heard arguments over the Arizona law.
