Count on this much during the stretch run of Arizona's Republican primary: Immigration will be a campaign issue.
The latest offering on the contentious subject comes from self-funding businessman Wil Cardon, who is up with two new 15-second ads hitting Rep. Jeff Flake. Flake, a former proponent of comprehensive immigration reform, did an about face last year, turning his back on his previous views in favor of prioritizing border security.
"Flake's amnesty plan for illegal immigrants is supported by Barack Obama," says the narrator of one of the spots.
A source tracking Arizona ad buys relays that Cardon is spending $105,000 on the spots, which are airing on broadcast TV in Phoenix and Tucson for the next week. The source says that the Cardon campaign is spending $243,000 on another 30-second ad, but the subject of that ad is not clear.
Flake's prior views make him vulnerable to attacks on immigration. But Cardon has his own issues. A front-page Arizona Republic story published on Saturday indicated that some of Cardon's business interests have drawn attention from Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The primary is August 28. Check out Cardon's spots after the jump.
