Cold as ICE: Trump's attack on otherwise law-abiding undocumented immigrants

NY Daily News (Editorial)
August 14, 2018

It’s not your imagination, and it’s not media hyperventilating: Under President Trump, undocumented immigrants without criminal records are being taken from their spouses and children and thrown into detention facilities at a horrifyingly rapid clip.

An analysis by NBC News found that in Trump’s first 14 months in office, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent arrests of people whose only offense was entering the country illegally or overstaying a visa had tripled compared to the last 14 months under President Obama — a 203% spike.

Arrests of immigrants with criminal records saw a far more modest increase, of just 18%.

It all makes a mockery of Trump’s pledge to focus on deporting “bad hombres,” and his promise that “we’re going to keep the families together, we have to keep the families together.”

It’s almost as though the President of the United States is not a man of his word.
