Rapper Flo Rida is no longer performing at the Miss USA pageant later this month, according to TMZ.
The
performer’s move follows backlash against Miss USA co-owner Donald
Trump, but the entertainment news website reported that Flo Rida refused
additional comment on his
decision.
He had been scheduled to appear during the event’s evening gown competition.
Trump offended some by criticizing Hispanic immigrants during his GOP presidential campaign launch two weeks ago.
“They’re sending people who have a lot of problems,” Trump said on June 16 of illegal immigration from Mexico.
“They’re
bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I
assume, are good people,” he added in remarks at Trump Tower in New York
City.
Macy’s
announced on Wednesday that it is yanking Trump-branded merchandise
following public outcry over his comments. The department store will no
longer sell men’s business
clothing or accessories from the Trump’s Signature Collection.
“In
light of statements made by Donald Trump, which are inconsistent with
Macy’s values, we have decided to discontinue our business relationship
with Mr. Trump and will
phase-out the Trump menswear collection, which has been sold at Macy’s
since 2004,” it said in a statement.
NBCUniversal revealed on Monday that it is also terminating its business partnership with the 2016 White House hopeful.
The
network additionally said it is no longer airing the Miss USA and Miss
Universe pageants next month, which are produced by Trump.
Univision led the charge against Trump by severing its bonds with the billionaire celebrity last week.
Trump is now suing the company for $500 million after it backed out of telecasting his Miss Universe contest.
“As
a consequence of their inappropriate actions, Univision and NBC have
abandoned fifty one wonderful young women who have come from all over
the United States to pursue
their dream of being crowned Miss USA,” he said in a statement on
Tuesday.
“NBC and Univision have wronged them,” he added.
Trump additionally defended his thoughts on illegal immigration in his announcement of the lawsuit earlier this week.
“We
are losing a huge number of jobs, manufacturing opportunities and money
due to poorly negotiated trade deals, a fact that [is] undisputable,”
he said.
