White House Reaches Out to N.C. Hispanics with Meeting to Talk Jobs, Education, Immigration

Associated Press: The Obama administration is reaching out to North Carolina's Hispanic residents, a potentially important voting group in a battleground state for this year's presidential election.

The White House is holding a day-long conference for Hispanics on Saturday in Durham. The gathering is the latest in a series of regional meetings with Hispanics where administration officials discuss issues including the economy, education, health care, and immigration.

White House staffers and officials from cabinet agencies will be in Durham to meet with Hispanic leaders, small-business owners and elected officials.

The Obama administration says eight similar conferences last fall increased participation in federal programs and communicated its message on new policies. Hispanic outreach this year has included similar summits in California, Texas, Arizona and presidential battleground states Virginia, Wisconsin, Ohio and North Carolina.
